Our first day in the beautiful city of Edinburgh was spent on a three hour tour that talked of the streets' history, done by Sandeman's New Edinburgh. The tour was free and engrossing. We had a great guide, named Chris, and I enjoyed myself greatly. The first eleven photos are of a few sights seen on our tour. The first portrays the important House of Commerce. The second shows the Mercat Cross. This place was situated in the middle of the market. It was used for both important proclamations and punishment. When one was being punished here, they would be nailed by their ear to the door of the cross and the people on the streets would give them their worst throughout the day. It was a place that could bring both good and bad. The next picture shows the most important church in Edinburgh. It was here that the riot against King Charles II and his religious want was started.
The fourth photograph is one that excited me very much. This is the window where J.K Rowling would sit and wright, while overlooking the city of Edinburgh. It is said that she got much inspiration from the city and the picture is followed by the school that supposedly inspired her to create Hogwarts. There is also a tombstone bearing the name of the Riddle family. Both father and son were named Tom. This cemetery is where Rowling got many of the names for her series, such as Mcgonagal and Tom Riddle. The two photos of this next section pertain to a certain dog named Blackfriar's Bobby. This dog is known for staying by his master's side, even when he died. The dog sat beside his master's grave for the rest of his own life once his master died. He was even made citizen of Edinburgh so that he could have the right to stay by the grave. He is extremely popular, and the second picture shows a statue of him that stands outside the graveyard holding his master's body. The statue is the most photographed in the entire city.
After the tour, we ate the most scrumptious burgers at a restaurant called the Tempus. It was another fantastic day, and though we did not get to see the castle, we will most likelysee it tomorrow.
