Cambridge

Today, we rode a long train ride to Cambridge. We enjoyed ourselves greatly, even though we did get quite a lot of rain.
When we arrived, we first entertained ourselves by walking about the campus of Christ College. This is the college that Charles Darwin attended and the grounds were BEAUTIFUL! The first twelve photographs are of this particular college. After our walk, we ate at a delicious restaurant called Giraffe. The food was fresh, nutritious, and delectable.
We then hurried from the restaurant to reach our approaching tour. We used Visit Cambridge as our tour company. This is a company sponsored by the town of Cambridge itself and it gives great walks through the historical town of Cambridge. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and the tour was one of the most interesting I have ever been on. Below are pictures of some places we saw on the tour. The first, in this section of images, is a picture of a pub that holds legends and history of the Second World War. The second is a picture of a plaque hanging outside of the laboratory where DNA was first discovered. The next photo is of a whale fossil outside of the Museum of Zoology. This fossil contradicted the original theory of evolution because it was obviously a mammal that had gone from the land to the sea. In reality, it is huge, but my camera was not able to include the whole of its body in the photo. The next four pictures are of the lovely Pembroke College and its chapel, and the other pictures are of the gorgeous chapel of Kings College, ancient in age and much attributed to by all the kings of England, over time. The last is a picture of a clock invented by a man who was the source of funding for a memorial honoring the popes who died during the time of the Plague. Popes were effected most because they had the most contact with the sick patients. The creature atop the clock iscalled a cronophage. It is a creature meant to symbolize the dark times. Despite this last dark note, it was a great day in a beautiful town!
